It’s all over. Go home! Leave Edinburgh to the residents for eleven months. But before you leave the home of the greatest arts festival in the world, a quick look back at what made the Fringe special for me, and why I love covering it.

The Edinburgh Fringe Show 2011 #26 – Top Ten Moments of the Edinburgh Fringe

Featuring:

Ray Lee’s Ethometric Museum.
Tim Fitzhigham’s first bet.
Helmsman Pete and another postcard from the edge.
James Campbell under pressure in an interview.
Kev Orkian, Still Standing.
Richard Sandling’s deleted Judge Dredd scene.
Scary Gorgeous snaps into focus
One Thing You Should Know about Kate Daisy Grant.
"That’s the end of the show."

In case you haven;t twigged, a lot of the Fringe podcast is unscripted. Even the interviews, and while we don;t have the time to finish the research, we do have a rough idea of what each show is about. Beyond that, we let the Fringe spirits decide where they go. And they’ve went in some lovely directions today!

Heading into the second full weekend, the weather is improving, and everyone is hitting their strides (and hoping there are some judges of the various awards in the crowds). Will the next few nights set up some shows for a huge glory run at the end of the Fringe? What I do know is there’s still a list a mile long of stuff I want to see and I’m running out of time…

The weekend is here, and if the weather could hold off, I think it’s going to be one of the biggest weekends in Fringe history. With a number of shows calling it a Fringe on Sunday, it’s the last chance to see a number of performances, but there’s also debut shows going up as well. Check the programme, and if all else fails, just ask the person behind you in the ticket queue what they’d recommend!

More rain, more stars, more shows – the Fringe is probably the best cure for the downpour of rain all over Scotland. And with stars like those on the podcast today, it’s easy to see why.

The rain is back, but nothing can stop the Fringe now. Awards are being announced, seats are being filled at a rapid rate, shows are selling out, and it’s early enough in August that the drenched performer on the Royal Mile still have enough enthusiasm to be happy.
It’s raining!

Being Edinburgh during the Fringe this is an occupational hazzard, and while it has been worse in previous years, it’s pretty bad. But is it raining in the theatres? Is it dampening the spirits of the crowd (or even the Spirit of the Fringe?). Not a chance, the energy is high, and everyone is just getting on with it and finding out which shows have free promotional umbrellas (*).

Two mornings of sun in a row? That’s a bonus, but even if it was raining (which it will) there’s still nothing to dampen the spirits of the performers at the Fringe. The shows have had a few runs in front of an Edinburgh audience, buzz is building and we’re all getting into the swing of the late mornings and later nights.
