Kate Copstick’s 20 comedians to catch at the Fringe

Edinburgh institution Kate Copstick, like many of us, has sat down with the Fringe program and picked out her favourites – although a nod from Copstick in The Scotsman is more likely to appear on the flyers of the twenty chosen acts than "Ewan says we’re quite nice."

Unless you follow the comedy circuit, a lot of these names are going to be new to you, but I can’t see a duff name in this twenty. I can see some comics that aren’t my cup of tea, but I’ve been known to drink tea with milk without complaining in the past. What I did enjoy about this list was the number of names that were featured in the Edinburgh Fringe Podcast many years ago, and continue to pop up like old friends that only see each other once a year. Acts like Axis of Awesome, Sam Simmons and Andrew Lawrence.

If you need a starting point for the thousand or so comedy acts, Kate’s list is as good a place as any.

Here we go again! Fringe 2011 launches!

Welcome to the official start of the 2011 season of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe:

The Festival Fringe Society is thrilled to announce the 2011 Fringe programme, crammed full of the stories, reflections and experiences of artists, producers and companies from all over the world. True to form this year’s Festival Fringe is bigger than ever before with the programme featuring 2,542 events.

That’s how the Edfringe press release put it (along with picking out some of their highlights) as the programme was launched today, for tickets to go on sale tomorrow.

And with the official launch, that means our email inbox has suddenly been hit with rather a lot of press releases from the performers at this year’s Fringe, both old friends who know how much fun the daily podcast is, and those new to Edinburgh who I can only assume have found the podcast either by reputation, or have cut and pasted a really big PR list supplied by the Fringe Society.

Right now, the team behind the Fringe podcast is looking through all the shows, seeing what catches our eye, and waiting for the press releases and "for your considerations" to come through our mailbox. If you want to get in touch and let us know about your show, then send an email to ewan@thepodcastcorner.com.

We’ll start the podcasts with some "Best of…" interviews and previews of this year’s Fringe show in the first week of July, before we switch to a daily line up on Friday 5th August. Until then you have years of archives to explore.
